Irish Championship 2025 Round 1 - Shaw Cup - 18th October
Round 1 of the 2025 Irish Championship took us to Herron’s Mountain just outside Castlewellan for the Knock MCC Shaw Cup. Conditions were good with very little rain over the previous two weeks resulting in a relatively dry course. A strong turnout with over 60 riders in attendance competing in 8 classes. Well done to everyone who made the journey up the M1 for a great day of trials!
In the Elite class, Cillian and Sean Doyle put in strong rides to finish 3rd and 4th respectively, with Scott Callaghan close behind in 5th.
In Expert, the "old man" Paul McLoughlin showed the young bucks how it’s done, taking the win! Alex Guthrie rode well to secure 4th place with Alex and Adam Harris expertly navigating the laps throughout the day! We believe a splatter is owed after Section 2.
Mark Harris came out on top in the Semi Expert class, while Simon Conerney had a solid debut on his new GasGas bike.
In the Sportsman class, there were strong finishes from Andrew Guthrie, Chris Hampshire, and Oliver Boland.
Youth B was won by Philip Brannigan, showing real promise for the future.
In Youth C, Harry Schmelter took the win with great performances from Ollie Smyth, Arthur Hampshire and Méabh Molloy, both tackling the big course on their electric bikes — impressive stuff!
Finally, a big congratulations to Josh Hanlon on a fantastic win in the Shaw Cup.
